Is my project suitable?
  • i-Teams is a flexible methodology which can be adapted for a wide range of projects
  • i-Teams generally focus on identifying and assessing real-world applications of a new technology, but we have also worked successfully on other questions
  • Our teams have a strong track record of generating new ideas for real-world uses of university inventions and in gaining relevant real-world feedback on those, including identifying detailed (often technical) requirements for those markets and industry contacts

Who can apply to have an i-Team?
For Cambridge i-Teams:
  • Anyone working in Cambridge University or any other East of England University, including staff and research students
For London i-Teams:
  • Anyone working in a London university or other HEI, including staff and students
We have a rolling application process and try to accommodate any project that is suitable - please contact at any time

When does it run?
  • Cambridge i-Teams runs every term
  • The next i-Teams London and i-Teams Taster dates are currently being finalised

How long does it last?
  • i-Teams projects run for a full term (about 9 weeks) with a first meeting at the end of the previous term
  • Taster projects run for 2 weeks with 3 half-day workshop sessions

How much of my time does it take?
  • For the best results, we suggest regular meetings with the team (at least once every 2 weeks), plus answering email questions

Who is in an i-Team?
  • Teams include up to 7 post-graduate students, selected to be as multi-disciplinary as possible
  • Each team has an industry mentor, and are also supported by Amy Mokady in London and by Amy Mokady and Rich Morales in Cambridge

When do I know if I have a team?
  • All selected projects have teams recruited specifically for them

What do I get?
  • Work with a team of highly-intelligent and motivated students
  • Benefit from the team's expertise in a wide range of scientific disciplines and market areas
  • Hands-on experience of seeing the team's ideas develop and mature, and the reasons for them rejecting other ideas
  • Final presentation (10-15 minutes) with backup materials / contact details

What about Intellectual Property?
  • i-Teams students are all required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement.
  • Students also agree that they will not be entitled to any revenue sharing should the project result in a later successful commercialisation.
