
Is my project suitable?
- i-Teams is a flexible methodology which can be adapted for a wide range of projects
- i-Teams generally focus on identifying and assessing real-world applications of a new technology, but we have also worked successfully on other questions
- Our teams have a strong track record of generating new ideas for real-world uses of university inventions and in gaining relevant real-world feedback on those, including identifying detailed (often technical) requirements for those markets and industry contacts
Who can apply to have an i-Team?
For Cambridge i-Teams:
- Anyone working in Cambridge University or any other East of England University, including staff and research students
- Anyone working in a London university or other HEI, including staff and students
When does it run?
- Cambridge i-Teams runs every term
- The next i-Teams London and i-Teams Taster dates are currently being finalised
How long does it last?
- i-Teams projects run for a full term (about 9 weeks) with a first meeting at the end of the previous term
- Taster projects run for 2 weeks with 3 half-day workshop sessions
How much of my time does it take?
- For the best results, we suggest regular meetings with the team (at least once every 2 weeks), plus answering email questions
Who is in an i-Team?
- Teams include up to 7 post-graduate students, selected to be as multi-disciplinary as possible
- Each team has an industry mentor, and are also supported by Amy Mokady in London and by Amy Mokady and Rich Morales in Cambridge
When do I know if I have a team?
- All selected projects have teams recruited specifically for them
What do I get?
- Work with a team of highly-intelligent and motivated students
- Benefit from the team's expertise in a wide range of scientific disciplines and market areas
- Hands-on experience of seeing the team's ideas develop and mature, and the reasons for them rejecting other ideas
- Final presentation (10-15 minutes) with backup materials / contact details
What about Intellectual Property?
- i-Teams students are all required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement.
- Students also agree that they will not be entitled to any revenue sharing should the project result in a later successful commercialisation.
